Education needs to be Practical

Reading time: 2 min

Education is not the learning of facts, but training of the mind to think.

~ Albert Einstein

There was a time, when a notebook and a pencil were enough things for study. But in today’s world, the growing competition in job market needs skills and skills come from understanding or Practical knowledge, not from learning only.

The role of student in a theoretical education is very less, as it all depends on teacher, what they teach. And filling the mind with fact with no practical knowledge is useless. Like for example, the students are well about ancient or medieval emperor and dynasties but are unaware about their surrounding and major incidents in their country. And logically as well as practically, the knowledge about present situation is more important than past, so that students can shape the country, as it is said that, “Students are the future of Nation.”

Practical knowledge involves the student with the event, facts and things, thus they understand more than cramming. This is important because, a mind can forget what it crams but never forget what it performs and understand.Like for example, an agriculture student in university, with no practical experience could forget in future what he/she learned in class but a son of a farmer, who accompany his father daily on land can never forget farming in future. Similarly, someone who is studying, how to write an essay, and is not writing a single essay, would have low content than the person who is continuously writing essay on daily basis.

In view of foregoing defect and short comings, system of education need a radical change, with addition of practical knowledge, self-reading, information gathering, work experience in school life itself. It should be given importance in addition to learning to bring about a complete and harmonious development of all factors of human personality.
