Chinese tech-giant Alibaba developed an AI system that can predict the presence of Coronavirus within seconds with 96% accuracy.
According to the worldometer , currently, there are 94,302 cases for coronavirus in the world which include 3,221 deaths, 51,204 recoveries.
Alibaba claims that its new system can detect the coronavirus through CT scans of the patient’s chests with 96% accuracy against viral pneumonia cases. The AI system takes only 20 seconds to predict the result. According to the report, before the arrival of the AI system, humans took almost 15 minutes to diagnose the illness as there can be upwards of 300 images to evaluate.
The system was trained on images and data from 5,000 confirmed coronavirus cases and has already been tested in hospitals throughout China. According to the Review’s report, at least 100 healthcare facilities are currently employing Alibaba’s AI.
Ping An (Healthcare organization) announced something similar solution that can detect the coronavirus. The company’s co-president and chief strategy officer of its Smart City division, Geoff Kau, released a statement saying:
Since its launch, the smart image-reading system has provided services to more than 1,500 medical institutions. More than 5,000 patients have received smart image-reading services for free. The system can generate smart analysis results in around 15 seconds, with an accuracy rate above 90%.
Due to the majority of cases, we now have a vast amount of data that can be fed into the Machine Learning algorithms to make a prediction. But the complexity of coronavirus requires some advance algorithm to get correctly detected.
We have already seen AI systems that track the spread of coronavirus from social media mining. Now, these systems are capable of identifying the disease as well. They may become very useful for the doctors and wellbeing of the citizens.
Common symptoms for coronavirus are fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties.
Standard recommendations to prevent spread include regular hand washing, covering mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, thoroughly cooking meat and eggs. Avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness such as coughing and sneezing.
