What is Quantum Supremacy?
In quantum computing, quantum supremacy is the potential ability of devices to solve problems that classical computers practically cannot.
Google took a big jump in the field of computer science. Google claims of archiving Quantum Supremecy. In an experiment, the quantum processor has completed a calculation in 200 seconds which will take more than 10,000 years for a traditional supercomputer.
Where normal computers work on bits (0/1) for processing, quantum computers work on Quantum bits or Qubits. Qubits can be 0 and 1 at the same time and this makes the computer process faster than traditional ones. The concept of superposition in quantum mechanics gives computing advantage to the Quantum computer.
Google did the experiment by generating a list of random numbers by checking the values millions of times over.
The quantum computer contained microscopic circuits and it has to generate the list of a random number between 0 and 253, but due to interference, some numbers start to show more than one time. Google developed a 54-qubit processor, named “Sycamore”, that is comprised of fast, high-fidelity quantum logic gates, in order to perform the benchmark testing.
Quantum computers can change technology and data processing in a better way. But, they can also give a serious challenge to Encryption because the Brute Force technique will only take a few minutes to try all the key combinations. Although Google achievement is certainly attainment in Quantum Computing, the field is still in its infancy and practical quantum computers remain far on the horizon, the researchers said.
