Reading time: < 1 min

On most HP laptops Windows 10 F1 opens browser with the help section. It searches for “How to get help in windows 10”. This becomes annoying when you accidentally press the F1 button or it gets clicked multiple times. To disable this F1 key function there is no inbuilt setting in Windows 10 for now. You have to add one simple registry command to stop this. It will only block the use of F1 for the Help window.

Steps:

  1. Open Notepad
  2. Copy and Paste this:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

;Disables F1 key - Help and Support - in Windows 10

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\Typelib\{8cec5860-07a1-11d9-b15e-000d56bfe6ee}\1.0\0\win32]
    @=""

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\Typelib\{8cec5860-07a1-11d9-b15e-000d56bfe6ee}\1.0\0\win64]
    @=""
  3. Save the file with F1.reg name.
  4. Double click on the F1.reg file and allow the user access and click Yes in the next prompt.
  5. Done.
